Rosemary Sinclair Textile Artist & Feltmaker

When I am asked what got me started in feltmaking I would have to say the opportunity to handcraft woollen fabric in my own choice of colours , designs and adding texture with surface design because thats what creativity and originality come down to for me. NZ Merino wool is a dream to work with, easily accessible, a natural thermostat for the wearer and shower proof with luxurious light weight warmth that is affordable.

Turning my ideas into wearable designs with a difference is an ongoing challenge I love. Whether using bright colours, pastels or natural shades of wool it is so worth the time and effort it takes and makes but a small hole in the to do list of new projects and keeps the creative buzz..well in overdrive really!

Despite its delicate appearance felted wool is tough ! The fibres have been opened so that they tangle together, then agitated followed by a gentle pounding and finally the air is knocked out and the fibres locked down when shrinking occurs.

Care of Felted garments
Hand or machine wash (short cycle) in Lux Flakes or wool wash. Reshape while damp and dry flat or tumble dry (warm not hot) with care.
